When I was a child, I used to blur my eyes to understand
what the priests and nuns really meant! I would play catechism with
anyone who’d listen to me. I’d teach them what the nuns were actually
trying to teach us about God. Then, at 10 years old, my dad brought
home “How to Win Friends and Influence People” and “Think and Grow
Rich”. I devoured both books and I knew I was on to something! As a 10
year old, Napoleon Hill and Dale Carnegie became my mentors. About the
same time a song “Just Call Me Pollyanna” (Doris Day, Every Body Loves
a Lover) became popular. It became my theme song.
Since those early years of the 1950’s, when I gathered playmates in my
backyard classroom, I’ve been passionate about helping people better
understand their own spirituality and their connection to God. I
decided in 8th grade that I would become a Music Therapist. But
somewhere in high school my blue-collar family guided me towards
secretarial classes. No one in my family had gone to college. So this
was the blue-collar answer to what I would do if my husband broke his
leg and I’d have to get a job.
Well, thankfully, God did have a wider vision for me. In the early
1970’s I fell into a job as an activity director in a skilled nursing
facility. Working with elderly people inspired me to earn my degree in
Gerontology. Finding the value of touch with my aged clients also led
me to several certifications in therapeutic massage.
Raising two boys, I found working several part time jobs preferable to
a 40 hour week. At one point, I was the director of a senior citizens
center and their home-delivered-meals program, while also being the
massage therapist for the local YWCA. I loved the contact with both
communities.
Then God showed up again and directed me to write a proposal to my
local Unity Church to create a new position as their “Outreach
Coordinator”. Their board accepted and off I went, visiting the sick
in the hospitals, starting a singles ministry, volunteer coordinating,
and working the “back of the church” on Sunday mornings.
Working the back of the church meant I had the privilege of supporting
Unity ministers and the fabulous workshop presenters that came to
town. Jack Boland taught me to Master Mind, and I’ve been practicing
the principles ever since. After five years of working in Unity
churches I became an ordained metaphysical minister and received my
Masters in Divinity through The University of Metaphysics.
In 1989, the earth shook in my part of California, and I fully stepped
into my calling. I founded a singles ministry, Conscious Connections
Community, which ran for over 15 years. I added Reiki and clinical
hypnotherapy to my tool belt and have continued to see clients in
weekly groups, workshops, retreats and individually.
What excites me most today is assisting others who are ready to step
into their calling. Some of my clients are mid-life, career changing
people. Others are approaching retirement and wanting to live with a
sense of PURPOSE. It is just so thrilling to encourage, inspire and
support individuals who want to make a difference in the world.
Now, just beginning the last third of my life at age 62, I resonate
with the words of James Dillet Freeman, founder of Unity Church, “I
fairly sizzle with zeal and enthusiasm to do the work that is mine to
do.”
My small coaching groups seem to go deeper and deeper, moving us along
our own personal spiritual path, all the while, enabling us to take our
work out into the world in a manner that speaks of our essence and our
purpose, while empowering others. My coaching clients bring me great
joy. I know the ripple affect of their work will touch thousands.
